Where to recycle household and automotive materials:
The Somerset County Recycling center accepts the following materials for recycling:
- Used anti-freeze, scrap metal, oil, oil filters and tires (limit 8)
- Newspapers and magazines
- Junk mail and other paper
- Corrugated cardboard
- Household batteries
- Phonebooks
- Glass bottles and jars
- Plastic bottles
- Aluminum, steel and bimetal cans
- Textiles
The Center is open on the first Saturday of each month from 8:00 AM to 12 noon.

Want to finally get rid of that old collection of National Geographic magazines?
The New Jersey Seafarers' Center (part of the Seamen's Church Institute of NY & NJ) will pick up donations of National Geographic magazines and paperback books. These donations can also be dropped off at their site, 118 Export Street in Port Newark.

The State of NJ Dept. of Environmental Protection lists several facilities on their website that will recycle or refurbish computers and monitors.
