Morris Automated Information Network [MAIN] Library Catalog
Bernards Township Library is a
member of the Morris Automated Information Network [MAIN], a New Jersey organization of 36 municipal public libraries and the Morris County Library.
These libraries share a computer system and offer the 26,000+ residents of Bernards Township and
470,000 residents of Morris county an online library catalog that lists over 2 million items.
The
MAIN catalog allows you to search Bernards Township Library’s materials as
well as those of the other 36 partner libraries. You have the choice of several
search options (Basic Search, Power Search, Browse Subjects,
and Kids Library), the ability to create personalized book lists, and
the ability to see book reviews and best-seller lists. Changes to the catalog
interface are made occasionally to improve your searching and borrowing
experience.
The computer system enhances all aspects of check-in,
check-out, renewals, etc. If you have your Library card with you the staff can
serve you faster.
Some things you should know about the catalog and system:
- You can check your own
library activity with My Account. When you log in to the MAIN
catalog with your Library card number and PIN, you are able to see what
you have checked out and when it is due, renew materials, place a true electronic reserve for items owned by Bernards Township
Library or by other MAIN libraries, and see if holds are available for
pick-up.
- Materials that are overdue cannot
be renewed online—please call (908.204.3031) or stop in at the Library to
renew these items. Items that are on hold for another patron cannot be
renewed online or in person.
- You can choose to be notified
by email or phone when your requested items are available. Contact a staff member to change this
preference, or to update your contact information.
- If you do not remember setting
a PIN previously, try the last four digits of your telephone number.
Otherwise, contact us at 908.204.3031 ext. 3 or stop in to have your PIN
set.
- Fines are computed and
displayed as follows: There is a two-day grace period built into the
system, but if an item is not returned within the grace period, fines will
be calculated by the computer from the due date. The system
calculates overdue fines continuously and will block further renewals,
check-outs, etc. when the fine reaches $10. If this happens, please see a
circulation staff member.
- The system prompts staff to
confirm your contact information annually. When this needs to be done you
may see the message “Privilege has expired” when you go to place a hold or
to renew items. Please call
(908.204.3031) or stop in at the Library to update your card.
If you need help navigating your way around the Library
catalog, please plan to attend one or more Your Library 24/7 sessions or
ask a staff member for help. We really want your Library experience
to be useful and enjoyable.
